Roborock maintained the same aesthetic design of the first generation with this model. Unlike its predecessor.

Features & Benefits

When it comes to performance, this robovac from Roborock does not disappoint. It features two functionalities; vacuuming and mopping. Located at the back of this robot vacuum are two brushes, while on the front end is a water tank with an attached mop.

The main motorized brush is used to clean debris on both hard floors and carpets, while the side brush is used to clean up edges. The water tank is detachable for easy refill and is equally easy to assemble by snapping it back. It has a smart water effusion system that utilizes two water outlets with filters to prevent excessive water flow. It allows the mop to have the right dampness to mop the floor properly. The mop is also detachable from the tank for easy cleaning.

The Xiaomi Mijia comes with a powerful 2000Pa motor, which is an improvement from the previous 1800Pa motor on the first gen model. Working hand in hand with the powerful suction are the five cleaning modes, which are operated by the MI Home App.

They include: – Balanced – Quiet – Turbo – Spot

Balanced is the default cleaning mode, while the Spot mode is used to clean a particular zone. Spot cleaning is fully controlled by the MI Home App, and you do not need a magnetic tape or virtual wall to create cleaning boundaries. You are only required to draw on the app map, where you want the house cleaned. The robot vacuum will respond by cleaning the area twice, before docking back to the charging station.

Thanks to LSD and SLAM navigation algorithm, the Mijia easily creates a virtual map of the cleaning area. When the power button is pressed, it begins identifying the boundaries. With a laser edge sensor, it is able to maintain 10mm proximity to a wall.

In addition, the robot has edge sensors that prevent it from falling over stairways and a 2mm bumper that prevents it from getting damaged in case it hits something. In total, it has 12 sensors. Once it finishes identifying the boundaries, it starts the cleaning process.

Since the mop is on the front, the Mijia cleans from the back to front to dry clean first before mopping it all up. It uses a grid-based cleaning system that involves cleaning an area in a straight line fashion, until it covers the whole area.

Xiaomi Mijia has a 5200mAh lithium-ion battery that has a runtime of up to 45 minutes. When the battery runs low, it automatically goes back to the charging station. The station has a pad that the robot vacuum sits on to prevent the wet mop from damaging wooden floors when it is stationary, during the charging process. After fully recharging, it can resume work from where it left off. When it comes to carpets or rags, this robovac automatically increases its suction power and vacuuming speed to clear out the debris. Also, it is able to climb obstacles with a maximum height of 2cm, which allows it to go over carpets and rugs without your intervention.

Xiaomi Mijia

The Mijia is easily operated by a power button that allows it to do the cleaning automatically. However, for a more personalized experience, you will have to use the Mi Home App. You will be able to monitor the progress of the robotic vacuum from your phone in real time. You may also check the remaining charge time and the cleaning statistics. With this app you can determine where the robot vacuum will clean next and you can even draw an out of bounds marker to prevent it from accessing certain areas. In addition, you can schedule it to work at certain times only. The Mijia is Wi-Fi enabled and only works on 2.4GHZ.

It also features a HEPA filter that gets rid of 99.9% of allergens from the air. The filter is washable, which means that you will use it for a long time before replacing it. It has a shelf life of 150 hours of cleaning time. The filter is attached on a 0.5-liter dust compartment. It is quite small in comparison to other established models, but at least it gets the job done.

Xiaomi Mijia Review

Cons

* Relatively expensive * Mopping function is ineffective on dry stains * Cannot clean corners * Not compatible with Amazon Alexa

Final Words

Overall, the Xiaomi Mijia is an excellent robot vacuum cleaner. It is a commendable improvement from the previous model, which was made solely for the Chinese market. The only problem is that it is completely ineffective on corners, due to its round design. The dust compartment is also small and you will need to empty it severally when cleaning a large room. It is also quite noisy on turbo and max mode. Other than the aforementioned cons, this robot vacuum will definitely give you value for your money. It gets our seal of approval.
