Robot vacuum cleaners are getting smarter by the day. Ironically, they are also getting cheaper and accessible to the normal household. We feature the Roborock S5 and the Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro in our comparison analysis today.


M80 Pro

Though they are relatively cheaper and lack the recognition of other established brands enjoy, they perform equally well and are highly rated by consumers. So, how does the Robovacs S5 compare to and differ from the Deebot M80 Pro?

Performance

The Roborock S5 and the Deebot M80 Pro both feature vacuuming and mopping functions. The S5 has a powerful cyclone-like fan with a high suction power of up to 2000pa. It is fitted with the main brush for the floors and side brushes and rolling brushes for tight corners. The dynamic brushes feature variable speeds – at the edges, they spin at 330RPM, while on the floor they spin at 130RPM. The main brush has an up and down floating capability for better contact of the surfaces.

It has six cleaning modes, Quiet, Balanced, Turbo, Max, Zone, and Carpet and can clean a maximum area of 2691 square feet in one session. However, with the zone cleaning mode, you can command it to clean a specified area by dragging the cleaning frame on the S5 app map.

It also features a specialized carpet pressurization mode that automatically switches to the maximum suction when it comes into contact with the carpet. It automatically switches to other modes when it leaves the carpet.


Roborock S5

The Deebot M80 Pro pales in comparison to the S5 when it comes to performance. It has a lower suction power of only 500pa and a maximum cleaning area of 1292 square feet. It has four cleaning modes, Auto-clean, Intense, Spot and Edge modes. The Intense mode is the highest mode and has the highest suction power and rotating speed. Spot mode concentrates on one area that needs a thorough cleaning, while the Edge mode deals with corners and edges.

The M80 utilizes a five-stage cleaning process that involves sweeping, lifting, vacuuming, mopping and drying floors in just a single pass. The detachable helix brush roll works particularly well on carpets by separating fibers for that deep reach. In addition, this robovac has two side brushes made up of nylon fiber for corners and edge cleaning.

Battery and Charging

The Roborock S5 utilizes a 5200mAh high-performance battery with a runtime of up to 150 minutes, before recharging. Once the battery hits low, it automatically moves to the dock for recharging.

After recharging, it has a memorizing feature that allows it to resume work from where it left off and continue until the work is done. The recharging time for the S5 is 240 minutes.

The Deebot M80 Pro uses a slightly less powerful battery with 3000mAh and a runtime of 110 minutes, before recharging. It also moves automatically to the docking station and recharges. Unfortunately, it does not have a memorizing feature and will not resume work from where it left off. You will have to direct it to that particular point for it to clean all areas. It also has a charging time of 240 minutes.


M80 Pro

Navigation

When it comes to navigation, the S5 uses intelligent route planning. It utilizes a Laser Distance Sensor (LDS) to scan the room 1800 times per second at 360 degrees to plan the cleaning route. It then uses a Z-shaped cleaning procedure to wipe out all the debris.

It also features four anti-drop sensors for the stairways, 10mm laser edge sensor, automatic self-recharging sensor, 2mm rubber bumper, and auto power off feature after leaving the floor. A unique feature of the S5 is its climbing ability. It can climb any obstacle with a maximum height of 0.8 inches. This height decreases to 0.6 inches when the water tank is inserted.

The Deebot M80 Pro features the Ecovac Smart Motion navigation technology to adapt to the environment, which allows it to navigate the room as it cleans seamlessly. It also has anti-drop and anti-collision sensors, which prevent it from ramming into obstacles.

With only 3 inches in height, it can easily navigate through sofas and beds. Again, it does not feature route planning like the S5 and only works its way around obstacles as it cleans.


Roborock S5

Smart Technology

Both robovacs support smart technology. They are both Wi-Fi enabled and are both controlled by smartphone apps. They also support Amazon Alexa and Google Home, which means that they can be controlled by voice commands.

In addition, the Roborock S5 has a voice prompt, which lets you know the current status of the device, whether it is cleaning, charging, etc. The S5 also supports Virtual Wall, which allows you to command it to clean only one area of the house. The M80 lacks these two features.


The Roborock S5 is hands down the better robovac between the two. It should be noted however that the two vacuum cleaners are designed for different purposes. The S50 cleans medium and large houses, while the M80 is designed for small and medium houses.

Also, the S5 works well on both low pile and medium pile carpets, while the Ecovacs Deebot M80 Pro is only efficient on low-pile carpets. Therefore, the Roborock is priced higher than the Deebot. However, they are both great vacuum cleaners and have our seal of approval.
