What Is An Essential Oil Diffuser?

We’re going to define what an essential oil diffuser is before we begin looking at the reasons why you shouldn’t buy one.

Well, there are four types of essential oil diffusers. Ultrasonic. Heat. Evaporative. Nebulizer. These four types of essential oil diffusers perform the same basic function, however, and this function is that of taking the essential oil that has been placed into the essential oil diffuser, and then dispersing that essential oil and sending it into the air surrounding the diffuser.

With ultrasonic essential oil diffusers, ultrasonic vibrations are used to break down the essential oil into small particles, and these particles are sent into the air. This process does not require any heat.

With heat-based essential oil diffusers, the essential oil is heated until it evaporates, and then this evaporated oil is just like a mist that is sent into the air.

With evaporative essential oil diffusers, there is a fan that is used, and this fan, combined with a little bit of heat, leads to the essential oil being evaporated.

Finally, with nebulizer essential oil diffusers, the essential oils are broken down into atoms and then released. This process, of breaking down the essential oils into atoms, is done through the use of force.

Now, all of these essential oil diffusers are fine, but they each come with some pretty specific disadvantages that will affect your usage of the essential oils that you love.

Why Shouldn’t I Buy An Essential Oil Diffuser?

Let’s start with a basic fact. Most essential oil diffusers are relatively inexpensive. You don’t need to spend a significant amount of money to own an essential oil diffuser. You can find them online for low prices, and many people choose to go that route, buying whatever essential oil diffuser looks decent and isn’t too expensive.

Here’s the thing; most essential oil diffusers – especially ultrasonic essential oil diffusers – tend to diminish the properties of those essential oils, during the diffusion process. This is due to a variety of reasons, but one of the main reasons has to do with the material that the diffuser is made out of.

The best essential oil diffusers are made out of ceramic, but these essential oil diffusers are not cheap, and this means that if you want the best results, you will have to spend a decent chunk of change.

Most of the inexpensive essential oil diffusers lack decent settings, as well. You don’t have a lot of control over the diffusion process, or anything of that sort, such as the length of the process. For many people, these settings are very important, and yet, they can be hard to find unless you are willing to spend some extra cash.

When you run an essential oil diffuser, of any type, for a long period – such as over one or two-hours – you might start to feel a little odd. That’s because these oils when you diffuse a lot of them over a relatively short period, can lead to high blood pressure, and that can lead to anxiety. If you sleep with it on – and you really shouldn’t do that – this can also cause nausea, and you might wake up with a nasty headache.

You can’t use extracts or thicker essential oils with an essential oil diffuser, since this can clog the diffuser, leading to a lot of damage. If you are someone who enjoys using those things, then an essential oil diffuser is probably not the right choice for you, unfortunately.

What Is A Good Alternative?

Right now, there aren’t exactly any good electronic alternatives. Electronic essential oil diffusers are the best options out there, even if they have a variety of flaws.

With that being said, however, many people are going online and learning how to make their essential oil diffuser, one that isn’t electronic, and these essential oil diffusers are great for smaller rooms and spaces, while also being less expensive and more effective, overall, when it comes to retaining the properties of the essential oil itself.

Conclusion

Essential oil diffusers are great, but there are some reasons why they might not be the best choice for you. If you can, making your essential oil diffuser is a great idea, as well as a great learning experience!
