What Does The iRobot Roomba E5 Robot Vacuum Have To Offer?

It wasn’t until the 2000s that robot vacuums became popular. While robot vacuums were invented in the 1990s, the technology was rather crude and lacking in efficiency. Most robot vacuums from that era were unable to navigate and maneuver themselves throughout their home, and they didn’t offer a lot in the way of cleaning abilities.

Today, that’s no longer the case. Robot vacuums are exceptionally popular, due to the efficiency and convenience that they offer. iRobot was, in many ways, a leader in turning robot vacuums into genuinely useful and affordable devices.

Today’s robot vacuums can navigate around your home, without you having to manually control them or engage with them. They move across your home, vacuuming up everything that is in their path, and they ensure that your home looks nice, and that your floors are as clean as they can be.

The iRobot Roomba E5 Robot Vacuum is exactly that. It’s an efficient robot vacuum that emphasizes convenience and efficiency. In comparison to some of the more expensive robot vacuums, it lacks pizzazz and some of the more unique features. That’s why it’s important to remember one of the most important features that this robot vacuum offers: affordability.

When you first look at this robot vacuum, you’ll notice the design and technical features, but also the low price-tag. For a Roomba robot vacuum, you generally have to pay a decent chunk of change. But, for this one, not so much, and you get access to some excellent features and systems that make the entire vacuuming process significantly easier!

Once you’ve taken the robot vacuum out of the box, you’ll need to download something known as the “iRobot HOME App”. This is an application that works for smartphones, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa. Using the application, you have access to all of the main features that the robot vacuum offers, as well as access to the data that the robot vacuum is producing.

When you use the iRobot HOME App – regardless of which device you’re using – you can change the cleaning mode, while also creating a custom cleaning schedule and viewing the current status of the vacuuming process.

If you want the robot vacuum to clean one very particular spot that is especially dirty, then you can select “Spot Mode”. If you would like the robot vacuum to move across the edges within your home, then there is “Edge Mode”. And, of course, there is “Auto Mode”, which is the mode that most people use. With Auto Mode, the robot vacuum moves through your home and vacuums up everything that is in its path. It does this while relying on its sensors to determine where it needs to be, and how it can get there in the most efficient manner possible!

As the robot vacuum moves across your home, there are several different systems that are being used. The main system is that of the 3-Stage Cleaning System. This is a cleaning system that the majority of Roomba robot vacuums rely on, due to just how effective and efficient it truly is!

Cleaning Stages

The first stage of the system has to do with loosening up all of the dirt, dust, and debris that the robot vacuum comes into contact with. Most of this is done using the side-brush. The side-brush is able to grab dirt that is to the sides of the robot vacuum, and then that leads to the second stage of the cleaning system.

When the dirt, dust, and debris has been loosened, it’s then lifted from where it is, to right in-front of the suction pathway. Usually, this is done using the side-brush, but it can also be done using the main brush, which is right underneath the robot vacuum, and in-front of the suction channel. So, if the robot vacuum is moving across a carpet, the dirt, dust, and debris within that carpet will be loosened and then lifted into the suction pathway.

Once everything has been thrown in-front of the suction pathway, it’s sucked into the vacuum. It all flows directly through a simple High-Efficiency Filter, which traps the allergens that have been vacuumed up. If you have pets, then this is a very useful filter.

Then, as everything passes through the filter, it flows into the dustbin. Depending on the amount of vacuuming you are doing, you may need to empty this dustbin out twice, or more, during a single vacuuming session. Regardless, you can just pull out the dustbin, it’s on the back of the vacuum, and dump its contents out into the trash. You can put it into the sink and wash the dirt off. And then, you can just push it back into the robot vacuum, and it will begin to vacuum once again.

Cleaning System

As it stands, the 3-Stage Cleaning System is an efficient and convenient system that allows for a quick and pleasant vacuuming experience. But, it wouldn’t work very well if this robot vacuum wasn’t good at, well, vacuuming. Fortunately, it is, and this is due to two main features.

While the vacuum is moving across hard floors and soft floors – hardwood floors and carpets, for example – it makes use of Dual Multi-Surface Rubber Brushes and Power-Lifting Suction. These are underneath the robot vacuum, and what they do is they allow the robot vacuum to move across each floor and to loosen and remove all of the dirt, dust, and debris that it comes into contact with. Then, when the Dual Multi-Surface Rubber Brushes have done their work, the Power-Lifting Suction takes all of that stuff and throws it through the High-Efficiency Filter, and then into the dustbin.

The brush system and the suction system allow for a very easy and a very pleasant vacuuming experience. With the brush system, vacuuming on hard and soft floors is effortless, since the brush can dive into the depths of a soft floor and remove everything that is within it. And, the suction is strong enough to help loosen up what is within those thicker surfaces.

Using the side-brush, everything that is to the side of the vacuum is loosened up and lifted, then thrown into the vacuum. But, it is a smaller brush, and as a result of this, it’s not always ideal for removing larger messes. Instead, it’s a side-brush and that’s all it’s meant for.

Filter

What’s nice about the High-Efficiency Filter is that it serves as a way of removing allergens from the air. If you are vacuuming up pet hair, then that pet hair is probably covered in pet allergens. What the filter does is it removes those allergens and ensures that they are disposed of, so that they don’t flow back into your air and contaminate everything.

Pet hair isn’t always easy to vacuum up, either. But, using the Dual Multi-Surface Rubber Brushes and the Power-Lifting Suction, this robot vacuum has a very easy time vacuuming it up. The brushes are able to reach in and grab the pet hair, ensuring that it doesn’t get tangled or fall away. And then, the suction grabs it and throws it through the High-Efficiency Filter, and then into the dustbin.

The last core design element that must be brought up is that of the battery-life. On a single charge, the iRobot Roomba E5 lasts for around ninety-minutes. Sometimes, it lasts a little bit longer, and sometimes, it lasts a little bit less. This depends on what you are cleaning with it, as well as on the mode that you are using – for example, Edge Mode doesn’t use a lot of battery-life.

While that isn’t the longest battery-life, it’s good enough for smaller homes and apartments. If you have a big home, then this may not be enough battery-life, so make sure to keep that in mind.

Conclusion

In the end, the iRobot Roomba E5 is a very well-designed robot vacuum. Using it leads to a convenient and efficient experience. If you have hard and soft floors to vacuum, then this is an excellent robot vacuum to own.

If you have a large home, though, then this may not be the ideal robot vacuum for you, due to the battery-life And, if you are looking for a truly powerful robot vacuum, this also may not be the ideal robot vacuum for you, due to the fact that it doesn’t always work well with especially thick carpets, or really dirty hard floors.
