Due to its simple attractiveness and functionality, bluestone has become a popular feature in homes across the country. This type of stone looks similar to granite or slate, and it is being used as tile for patios, countertops, window and door features, and more.
Bluestone does not easily absorb water, which means you don’t have to worry too much about mildew or mold.
Because it is not porous, it is not easily stained and is very easy to clean. Depending on where it is used in your home, you can follow some simple steps to keep your bluestone clean.

Patio Because it is not very porous, a bluestone patio does not require too much maintenance during its first few years. You can brush or sweep any dry debris or leaves without fear of damaging or scratching the surface. Persistent leaves and dirt can even be blown away with a leaf blower.
Once that is done, you can make a solution with dish soap and water for washing.
Simply pour about ½ cup (120 mL) of dish soap in a bucket, fill it up with water, and mix it up until you see suds and bubbles. Another solution, for more stubborn stains, uses one half water and one half either vinegar or lemon juice.
Once you have your soap and water mixed up, then it’s just a matter of scrubbing with a brush. After you get your scrubbing broom or brush wet, scrub the patio with small circular motions to ensure that you clean every part of the tile.
After you have scrubbed everything, dump out the bucket and refill it with clean water. Rise out your brush and broom and give the patio a once-over with the clean water. After this is done, you can use new, clean water from the hose to rinse off the bluestone. Voila!
You can also use different attachments on your garden hose to clean your patio. You can use a jet spray nozzle or, even better, a sidewalk sweeper nozzle. A simple spray nozzle may not be powerful enough to remove caked on dirt and grime.
There nozzles may be purchased at your local home improvement store. Using a power washer is possible but, if you are not careful, you may damage your patio.
Countertop To clean your bluestone countertop, you can use a smaller amount of dish soap and water or the solution made with vinegar or lemon juice. When scrubbing your countertop, be sure to use a gentle brush or rag. Once you have scrubbed using circular motions, rinse the countertop with a clean rag and fresh water.
Bluestone is a great feature for any home because it is easy to clean and attractive. Whether indoors or outdoors, be sure to clean up messes right away to avoid permanent stains. Usually, you will only need a light sweeping to clean your stone.
But if there is more cleaning and scrubbing to be done, we hope you can use these tips to clean your bluestone and keep it looking as beautiful as ever!
