With the Roomba brand pretty much dominating the robot vacuum cleaner market, it is always interesting to look at cheaper alternatives. But you want to make sure that you are still getting the value for your money whilst paying less. In this comparison we will have a look at two remarkable similar robot vacuums; the Eufy Robovac 15C and the iRobot Roomba 690.

Cleaning Abilities

Clearly, the most important aspect of a robot vacuum is how well each model compares when cleaning.

The Eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 15C has a central suction area for hard floors and two brushes on the outside. These brushes sweep the corners, dust and debris will be guided towards the central area, and sucked into the dust container.

The iRobot Roomba 690 has a more effective 3-stage cleaning system with the first brush dislodging the dirt and the second brush sweeping it all into the dust container through the filters. The third brush extends at an angle to reach corners, wall edges and around furniture legs.

However, the different brush system does mean that the Eufy runs at about 10 decibels less than the Roomba so there is less noise to worry about.

The Eufy model has a higher suction power at 1300 pa (against the Roomba’s 600 pa) which is especially important when it comes to vacuuming carpets.

In general, both vacuums do very well on hard floors and shorter pile carpets but can struggle or get stuck on deeper pile carpets and rugs.

Design and Size

With its 5.8 lb weight, the Eufy 15c is 2 lbs lighter than the Roomba which makes it easier to carry around, but it will make the robot vacuum slightly less sturdy.

Its main advantage over the Roomba is that it is only 2.8 inches tall making it less likely to get stuck under furniture compared the Roomba, which is 3.8 inches in height.

Unlike the Roomba, the Eufy has no LCD display but does have a sleek looking black scratch-resistant tempered glass surface.

Battery and Recharge

The Eufy model wins the battle when it comes to run time at 100 minutes against the Roomba’s 90 minutes; these times are based on cleaning hard floors without climbing up and down carpets which wears the battery down faster.

Both models automatically go to the docking station when the cleaning plan is finished or when the power of the battery is low. However, neither machine will continue cleaning once recharged.

Software

Both vacuums work with Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant as well as having an app for smartphones. Both robots also offer 7-day cleaning schedules.

The Eufy has an infra-red sensor system which recognizes obstacles, moving away from them when necessary. It does not have the virtual wall barriers that the Roomba 690 has so you cannot close off a room or an area.

They both have similar anti-edge sensors to stop them from falling down stairs as well as dirt sensors which increase the suction on a dirty floor.

The navigation software is different between the two models. The Roomba model follows a logic-based cleaning path which mean it is less likely to miss particular spots, whereas the Eufy moves randomly around the space with no mapping or path planning.

Filters

The Eufy has a dual layer filter system as well as a high-performance filter (which they refer to as HEPA-style), but it is not the HEPA filter quality of the iRobot Roomba 690.

Product Care

You will need to blow air through the filters of both machines to keep them clean (no washing) and replace them every couple of months depending on usage and dust, and the brushes need to be kept free of hair and fibers and replaced once or twice a year.

It is recommended that the dust containers are emptied after every cycle and both can be washed but must be thoroughly dried before being put back into the vacuum.

Conclusion

The main differences between the two models, except for the slightly lower price of the Eufy, is that the Eufy has a higher suction power, slightly longer battery life and is quieter.

The iRobot Roomba 690 has a higher quality filter, maps and plans its cleaning path and offers the virtual barrier concept to keep it away from certain areas.

If you have medium pile carpet, the extra suction power of the Eufy Robovac 15C might make all the difference.
